About David
David Garrett is number five on the ACT Party list and was elected to Parliament at the 2008 election. He is ACT’s Law and Order Spokesman and is the driving force behind their ‘Three Strikes’ policy.
He graduated with a B.A. and LL.B (Hons) at the University of Canterbury. A lawyer since 1992, David was legal advisor to the Sensible Sentencing Trust prior to entering Parliament. He was also the proprietor of a legal practice over in Nuku’alofa, Tonga, from 1999 to 2003, and continued to travel to Tonga afterwards to represent clients at the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.
David’s main areas of practice included employment, civil litigation, banking & finance, land transactions, and company law. He has written many articles on legal issues for a number of publications, including the New Zealand Herald.
David lives on a lifestyle block in Kaukapakapa, near Helensville, with his wife and two young children.
